US announces new sanctions against "Russian war machine"
The White House has unveiled a new package of sanctions this week targeting the Russian war machine and anyone aiding weapon production in Russia
This announcement came from White House adviser John Kirby, as reported by Ukrinform.
The US is stepping up the pressure on the “Russian war machine”. This week, the US is rolling out a strong set of new sanctions and export control restrictions, Kirby stated.
These measures are in line with commitments made by G7 leaders. The sanctions will focus on organizations and networks that help Russia procure essential items for its war in Ukraine.
This will specifically hinder financial intermediaries from supporting Russia's defense and industrial sectors and will further restrict Russia's future income in key areas, noted the White House representative.
Kirby also highlighted that over the past two and a half years, the US has countered Putin through various means, imposing the toughest sanctions and export controls ever seen against a major economy.
He mentioned the immobilized sovereign assets of Russia, aimed at cutting off funding for Putin's war machine.
- On Thursday, May 30, the US Treasury announced sanctions against two companies in the Central African Republic linked to the Russian Wagner PMC.
