150 gross violations recorded at Zaporizhzhia NPP during occupation - Ukraine's Prime Minister
Over the two years of Russian occupation of Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, more than 150 gross violations of the plant's operation have been recorded, each of which could be fatal
Ukraine's Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced this during a government meeting, Ukrinform reports.
"Two years ago, the armed Russian military occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant contrary to all norms of international law," he said.
The Prime Minister called it an unprecedented case in history that brought the continent to the brink of disaster.
"Since then, more than 150 gross violations of the plant's operation have been recorded, each of which can be fatal," Shmyhal emphasized.
According to him, the state authorities have a clear and understandable position on ZNPP, namely: "to activate the toughest sanctions against Russia, to use all possible instruments of the IAEA and the UN, to return Ukrainian control over the plant as soon as possible."
"We also plan to complete the construction of the third and fourth blocks at Khmelnytskyi NPP, build blocks 5 and 6 using AR 1000 technology, create two interconnectors to Europe to strengthen energy integration with the EU, and new high-maneuverability generation facilities with a capacity of 2-3 GW," the Prime Minister added.
ZNPP has been under occupation since March 4, 2022. During this time, Russia has repeatedly violated nuclear safety principles by deploying military equipment at the plant, mining the territory and terrorizing the personnel. Russian military and authorities ignore the IAEA decision to return ZNPP to Energoatom's control.
