Ukraine's Navy explains why Russian warships visit Havana Port
Andriy Ryzhenko, 1st Rank Captain of the Ukrainian Navy Reserve, strategic expert at Sonata, believes that the visit of Russian warships to the port of Havana was to remind of past victories
He said this on the Espreso TV channel.
"The visit of the Russian Navy is of geopolitical importance. There have been many escalations between the USSR and the United States over Cuba. Cuba has a good location, it is close to the United States. In 1961, the Soviet Union had a serious advantage when it covertly deployed nuclear missiles. Now this advantage is gone because a missile can be launched from any corner of the world," Ryzhenko said.
According to a captain of the Ukrainian Navy Reserve, the visit of Russian warships to the port of Havana was to inspire with past victories.
"To show that they have it. Because there are not many ships in the ocean area. Admiral Gorshkov is the only ship of its class. It is a destroyer that has been built in the last 30 years in Russia. All the others were small ships. So it was an advertising target," Ryzhenko added.
- On June 7, reports said that Russia had sent its warships to Cuba for exercises. They are due to arrive in Havana next week. The United States is monitoring the situation.
- On June 12, Russian warships entered the port of Havana, the capital of Cuba. The United States and Cuba assure that this maneuver has no military purpose.
