NATO threatens not Russia's security, but Russian imperialism - Estonian PM Kallas
Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas emphasizes that Estonia's accession to the Alliance was the country's free choice, and that Russia's claim that NATO enlargement threatens its security is a myth
Kallas said this in an interview with ERR after speaking at the Shangri-La Dialogue security conference in Singapore.
It is known that in her speech at the conference, the Estonian prime minister refuted the narrative associated with NATO.
“Joining NATO was a free choice of our people, not, let's say, imposed from the outside. They talk about NATO enlargement as a process that is somehow unrelated to the will of the countries, but I refute this,” she explained.
Another thesis of Kallas' speech concerned Russia as the last colonial power that is actually trying to colonize and expand its empire.
She also noted that those who accuse NATO of expansion and escalation are adopting the imperialist language and ideology promoted by Russia.
“NATO is not a threat to Russia's security, but to Russian imperialism,” Kallas said.
The third point of the Estonian prime minister's speech was a call for a proper response to the war so as not to encourage other countries to use it.
“If the use of aggression as a tool pays off because you end up with more territory or more assets, then other countries with more power will also use this tool,” she said.
