Lack of housing: Scotland to pause Ukrainian refugee support program
Scotland is to pause its Ukrainian refugee sponsorship scheme for three months as it faces a lack of suitable accommodation
This was reported by the Guardian with reference to the government's statement.
According to a statement, Scotland will suspend its support program for Ukrainian refugees for three months due to a lack of suitable accommodation.
Currently, 4,600 Ukrainian refugees out of 7,000 who fled to Scotland from the war live under the program of such support.
The program was launched on March 18.
Scotland is expected to shelter another 18,000 refugees from Ukraine in the coming months. Then the number of refugees accepted there will exceed the per capita rate of England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Such an increase in the number of Ukrainians fleeing the war can lead to a lack of housing and the need to accommodate people in an emergency, which is not the best solution - the government explains.
Scotland provided housing for refugees in hotels and university campuses, and recently chartered a passenger ship to provide additional temporary housing with 739 rooms for six months from July.
