Over 1,000 soldiers, 11 tanks, 28 artillery systems: General Staff updates Russian army losses for one day of Ukraine war

There were 90 combat clashes in the frontline over the last day. Ukrainian defenders repelled a number of Russian attacks in 7 directions, but most of them in the Avdiivka sector. Meanwhile, Russia has lost 1,050 troops

The total combat losses of the Russian Federation from 24.02.22 to 17.02.24 are estimated at:

  • personnel - about 401,350 (+1050)
  • tanks - 6,476 (+11)
  • armored combat vehicles - 12,145 (+16) 
  • artillery systems - 9,669 (+28) 
  • MLRS - 984 (+0) 
  • air defense systems - 671 (+0)
  • Aircraft - 332 (+0)
  • helicopters - 325 (+0)
  • UAVs of operational and tactical level - 7,413 (+5)
  • cruise missiles - 1,896 (+1)
  • ships/boats - 25 (+0)
  • submarines - 1 (+0)
  • motor vehicles and fuel tankers - 12,734 (+18)
  • special equipment - 1,533 (+5)

Situation at frontline: Ukrainian army repels 43 Russian attacks in the Avdiivka sector over last day

Thus, according to the General Staff, the operational situation has not changed in the area of the northern Ukrainian border with Belarus.

In the northeastern border area, the Russian army maintains a military presence in the border areas, conducts active sabotage activities to prevent the deployment of Ukrainian troops to threatened areas, and increases the density of minefields along the state border in the Belgorod region.

In the area of responsibility of the Khortytsia operational-strategic group in the Kupyansk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 3 Russian attacks near Synkivka, Kharkiv region.

In the Lyman direction, Ukraine's soldiers repulsed 17 attacks near Terny, Yampolivka, Torske in Donetsk region and Bilohorivka in Luhansk region.

In the Bakhmut direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces rebuffed 13 Russia's attacks near Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, Klishchiivka and Andriivka in the Donetsk region.

In the Avdiivka direction, Ukraine's defenders repelled 38 hostile attacks in the area of Lastochkyne, Avdiivka, west of Berdychiv and another 5 attacks near Pervomayske and Nevelske in Donetsk region.

In the Marinka direction, the Defense Forces continue to hold back the Russian army near Heorhiivka and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region. Here, the invading troops, supported by aviation, tried to break through the defense of Ukrainian troops 12 times.

No offensive (assault) actions of the Russian Federation were registered in the Novopavlivka direction.

In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the Russian occupation forces unsuccessfully tried to attack the positions of Ukrainian troops southeast of Mala Tokmachka 3 times.

In the area of responsibility of the Odesa operational-strategic group in the Kherson direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to hold their positions and repel the attacks of the occupation forces. Despite significant losses, Russia keeps trying to drive Ukraine's units out of their positions. Thus, over the past day, they made 4 unsuccessful assaults.

At the same time, Ukrainian soldiers are actively inflicting losses in manpower and equipment on the occupation forces, depleting the Russian enemy along the entire front line.

In total, Russia launched 8 missile and 55 air strikes, fired 137 times from multiple launch rocket systems at the positions of Ukrainian troops and populated areas. Unfortunately, Russian terrorist attacks have resulted in injuries and deaths among the civilian population. Multi-storey and private buildings, medical facilities, and critical infrastructure facilities were destroyed and damaged.

Three settlements in the Kharkiv region, one in Luhansk region, and six in Donetsk region were subjected to air strikes.

More than 110 settlements in Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, Kherson and Mykolaiv regions came under artillery fire.

At the same time, during the day, the aviation of the Defense Forces struck 11 areas of Russian personnel concentration and their anti-aircraft missile system.

Missile troops struck at 3 areas of personnel concentration, 2 areas of artillery firing positions, 1 ammunition depot, 2 radar stations, 2 Russian air defense facilities.

  • The Ukrainian Defense Forces command decided to withdraw units from Avdiivka and move to more favorable positions in order to avoid encirclement and save lives.
