Emergency protection activated at Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, fifth power unit turned off due to Russian army attacks - Energoatom
The Russian army has shelled the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant today, September 1. The fifth power unit was turned off, and the station's backup power line was damaged in the shelling.
This was reported by Energoatom in Telegram.
According to the report, on the eve of the visit of the IAEA mission, the Russian occupation forces resorted to new provocations at the power station.
"Today, on September 1, 2022, at 04:57, as a result of another mortar attack by the Russian occupation forces on the site of the Zaporizhzhia NPP, emergency protection was triggered and the working 5th power unit was turned off. In addition, the backup power supply line for the nuclear power plant’s own needs-330 KV-was damaged. In the transition mode, the non-working power unit No. 2 was de - energized with the start of diesel generators," reports Energoatom.
As noted, this is the second time in the last 10 days that the criminal actions of the Russian army led to the shutdown of the unit and the de-energization of the station.
It is also reported that power unit No. 6 continues to operate in the Ukrainian energy system.
Russian troops today, September 1, have opened artillery at the route along which the IAEA mission was supposed to go to Zaporizhia NPP. The route had been agreed in advance.
