Bulgarian politician throws away Ukrainian flag from Sofia City Hall, calling it 'fascist'
Bulgarian parliamentary candidate Atanas Stefanov has thrown the Ukrainian flag from the balcony of Sofia City Hall, saying it has no place there and calling it 'fascist'
The corresponding video was posted on Facebook by the leader of the MIR party, Simeon Slavchev, who is also running in the race for the upcoming early elections on April 2.
The video shows the politician removing the Ukrainian flag from the balcony and throwing it down while somebody is shouting "Hurray!". The flag is then dragged to a flower pot.
“We took down the fascist flag, which has no place there. It has had no place there for a long time. Death to fascism, we will not legitimize fascists and the Holocaust,” Atanas Stefanov commented on his action.
At the same time, Simeon Slavchev claimed that the Ukrainian flag was illegally on the Sofia City Hall building.
“The placement of foreign flags on Bulgarian institutions is a serious provocation, a harm to Bulgaria's statehood and neutrality, which further divides our society. That is why Atanas Stefanov, a candidate for deputy from the MIR party, removed the Ukrainian flag,” he wrote.
