Ceasefire in Ukraine possible in 2025, intelligence chief say
Kyrylo Budanov, head of Ukraine's Main Intelligence Directorate, suggests that a ceasefire in Ukraine could happen as early as 2025
He stated this in an interview with Azerbaijani journalist Eynulla Fatullayev.
When asked whether a ceasefire in Ukraine could occur in 2025, Budanov replied:
“I think so. You know, it’s a paradoxical situation. Despite the fact that the starting positions of the parties are as diametrically opposed as possible, at the same time, I believe that this year we will reach a ceasefire regime. How long it will last and how effective it will be is another question. But I think it will happen. There are most of the necessary components for it to happen.”
Budanov also expressed doubts that the deployment of so-called peacekeeping forces could serve as a guarantee.
“Show me at least one country in the world where the deployment of peacekeepers has worked… Maybe there is one, but I can't recall such a case,” he added.
- Additionally, Budanov stated that Russia has always tried and will continue to try to drive a wedge between Poland and Ukraine.
