Situation in Ukraine’s Kupiansk sector may result in crisis — military expert
Military expert, reserve colonel in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and former spokesperson for the General Staff, Vladyslav Selezniov, noted that the situation at the front remains unstable, especially in the areas of Toretsk and Chasiv Yar
He shared the information on Espreso TV.
"As for the situation on the front, it remains extremely difficult. Just a week ago, we were talking about a slight decrease in the intensity of combat operations. Now, as we can see, the Russians are attacking again, on many sections of the front. There are several media-highlighted areas, such as the Pokrovsk region, the remnants of the Kurakhove bridgehead, now referred to as the Novopavlivka sector. However, the situation remains extremely difficult on other sections of the front as well. The Toretsk area, the Chasiv Yar area, especially south of this settlement, Stupochky, the southern district of Chasiv Yar. The situation is exceptionally challenging," he noted.
Vladyslav Selezniov emphasized that the most significant factor affecting the situation on the battlefield and the intensity of combat operations is the resource factor, which the Russian army, evidently, has in sufficient quantity.
"The situation currently unfolding in the Kupiansk sector could have crisis consequences in the future, as the bridgehead in the area of the settlement of Dvorichna, located on the western bank of the Oskil River, is expanding. The Russians continue to deploy additional forces and assets to this bridgehead, which may pose a threat not only to Kupiansk but also potentially create significant problems for Ukrainian defenders in Vovchansk. So, the situation on the front is far from stable, and the key factor influencing the intensity of combat operations is the resource factor. As it turns out, Russian troops still have resources and are willing to throw them into the hell of war. Yes, I understand that one of the spikes, such large-scale spikes, when 261 combat clashes occurred in one day, was related to the Munich Security Conference. But all these events took place. The meeting in Riyadh happened, but the intensity of combat operations, to say that it significantly decreased on the battlefield, I wouldn’t risk saying," said the military expert.
- On February 14, it was reported that Russian forces had made gains on the right bank of the Oskil River in the Kharkiv region, near Dvorichna and Novomlynsk.
- On February 15, Yurii Fedorenko, commander of Ukraine's 429th Separate Achilles Drone Systems Regiment, reported that the situation near Dvorichna was difficult. Russian troops were crossing to the right bank of the Oskil River using boats and rafts.
