An explosion at Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant could contaminate all of Europe - Zgurets
An explosion at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant could contaminate the entire European continent with radioactive elements.
Defense Express analyst Serhii Zgurets shared the statement on Espreso.
"I think that there will be political statements from the Ukrainian side, but Ukraine must pay attention to serious military challenges. The point is that it is necessary to plan measures to minimize such risks either through the actions of special forces or the use of weapons systems that do not cause damage to the nuclear power plant, but can strike the equipment near it. The problem is that they brought both equipment and ammunition into the area of the first and second reactors," he said.
The analyst added that the statement about mining is an extremely alarming signal, which should be an impetus for pressure on the Russian Federation.
"This is the first example when the armed forces of another country resort to such actions. We understand that we are dealing with an aggressor who will not follow any rules of hostilities. This is such a reality," Zgurets added.
He emphasized that there are schedules for spraying substances in the event of damage to storage facilities or reactor explosions.
"Spread zones have significant distances, especially if it overlaps with a certain wind. This can threaten the Russian Federation itself, and Belarus, and European countries. This field can cover Europe with radioactive elements very densely and this is one of the important factors that should stimulate actions from Europe and U.S. to find an economic and political vise to bring the Russian Federation to a standstill," concluded Zgurets.
