28 Security Council members, 154 Federation Council senators, 424 State Duma lawmakers: Zelenskyy on sanctions for Russia's rulers
Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council has applied sanctions to 606 individuals who are part of Russia's leadership apparatus.
Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made the announcement in his evening address on September 7.
"28 members of Russia's Security Council, 154 members of the Russian Federation Council, 424 members of the Russian State Duma. All of them are responsible for this war, for terror against our people. And none of them will escape responsibility - it is only a matter of time. We have already done some of the necessary legal, diplomatic and political steps for the sake of such responsibility for them. We are also taking all other steps thoughtfully," the head of state said.
He also spoke about an important operation conducted by Ukraine's Security Service. It concerned the activities of some sanctioned persons on the territory of the state.
"I have repeatedly emphasized that there will be no place for smugglers and criminal networks in Ukraine. It seems that some of them did not understand. Well, they will understand," Zelenskyy assured and explained that the customs officials who helped the smugglers, including among the managers, were suspended and will receive a legal response to all their illegal actions.
"As for those persons subject to sanctions, who also have foreign citizenship, in particular Russian and Romanian, based on the proposal of the Security Service of Ukraine and in accordance with the norms of the current legislation, I made a decision to terminate the Ukrainian citizenship of these persons," the president said.
