10,000 people in Mariupol can die of diseases and unbearable living conditions by end of year - mayor
Over 10,00 residents of Mariupol may die due to diseases and poor sanitation by the end of 2022.
Mariupol City Council reported catastrophic living conditions of residents.
"By the end of the year more than 10,00 people in Mariupol can die of diseases and unbearable living conditions. Now there are 150-170,000 residents in the city. Russians turned Mariupol into the medieval ghetto. So the death rate will be appropriate. Without medicine and health care, water supply restoration and a functioning sewage system epidemics will outbreak. Now most of the residents are elderly and sick people. Without the proper conditions, mortality among the vulnerable will increase," the statement said.
Some residents returned to Mariupol from nearby villages, because out of strict filtering, Russians don't let them leave for the Ukrainian-controlled territory. Russians commit genocide against the people and expose them to mortal danger. Mayor stressed the need to complete the evacuation of Mariupol residents.
