Zelenskyy warns of Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant risk: may once again be one step away from disaster
The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has published a video address in which he highlights the situation at Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant (ZNPP), saying that the risk of a disaster remains high.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this in his evening address.
"Our nuclear engineers, all experts in the energy industry, manage to protect the ZNPP from the worst-case scenario, which is constantly being provoked by Russian forces. So far, the plant has been connected to the grid. Congratulations. It produces energy for Ukraine. I want to emphasize that the situation remains very risky, dangerous. Any repetition of yesterday's events, i.e. any disconnection of the station from the network, any actions of Russia that may provoke the shutdown of the reactors, will again put the station one step away from disaster," said the President of Ukraine.
Zelenskyy also noted the importance of the IAEA's mission.
"That is why it is so important that the IAEA mission arrives at the station as soon as possible and helps keep the NPP under Ukrainian control in a permanent mode. That is why it is so important that Russian troops withdraw from the station and the neighboring areas and that the threat of shelling of the station itself or power lines from it disappears," said Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
