Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant’s diesel generators may stop due to Russia’s actions
The actions of the occupying Russian forces are leading to the inevitable degradation of equipment and systems important for the safety of Zaporizhzhia NPP
This was reported by the press service of Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy.
"The fake management of Zaporizhzhia NPP ordered the use of Russian-made oil for the backup diesel power plant, without taking into account that this oil begins to foam intensively when heated. This leads to a decrease in pressure in the system and automatic shutdown of diesel generators," the statement said.
President of Ukraine’s Energoatom company, Petro Kotin, stressed that such actions of the Russian power engineers brought to Zaporizhizhia nuclear power plant by Russian occupiers "lead to inevitable degradation of equipment and systems important for the safety of the plant".
"Ultimately, this may provoke a failure of the most critical safety equipment - diesel generators, with a subsequent nuclear and radiation accident," the Energy Ministry said.
They also noted that the actions of the Russian forces are a gross violation of the requirements of Ukraine's nuclear legislation, so after the liberation of the plant, the perpetrators will be punished.
