Russian State Duma selects Yulia Navalnaya as Putin's sparring partner

At a public meeting, Russian senators effectively legitimized Yulia Navalnaya in the Russian information space. This is an extraordinary event

I don't believe for a second that this was unauthorized or unplanned.

To me, this suggests that a deliberately convenient sparring partner for Putin is being created.

I don't think Navalny could be an FSB agent, nor do I believe his wife is one. I'm not in favor of dehumanizing this family.

However, this shows that Yulia Navalnaya is a convenient opponent for the Kremlin, much like Joe Biden is for Putin.

Putin doesn't rely on specific individuals; he relies on the processes that support his strategy. The weakness of the Biden administration and its chief intelligence officer, Burns, plays into Putin's hands.

The ineffectiveness of Navalnaya (as well as Tikhanovskaya, who was supported by the White House) is completely satisfactory for both Moscow and Minsk.

Putin benefits from Navalnaya's rhetoric, which openly mocks the discourse on decolonization and draws the media's focus to her personal and family story.

In reality, millions of Ukrainians - each having lost relatives, friends, and loved ones - are competing for the attention of Western liberal audiences against one woman whose husband was brutally murdered.

I'm not suggesting this is a malicious FSB plan. What I am saying is that this situation serves the interests of both the White House and the Kremlin, but it does not benefit the Ukrainian people.

It’s often said: “Putin is the enemy of the Ukrainian present, and Russian liberals are the enemies of the Ukrainian future.” We now have further confirmation of this thesis.
