What Zelenskyy is silent about
A few words about yesterday's article in The Washington Post about how Zelenskyy and his team were preparing for a full-scale war between Russia and Ukraine
Mykola Knyazhytskyi, Ukrainian journalist and parliamentarian, shared his views -
What is interesting:
- it was again confirmed that Moscow planned to seize Kyiv in a few days. Then they had to regroup and go to Western Ukraine with a wide front from north to south, leaving only certain regions that Putin did not consider "Ukraine";
- Zelenskyy was shown many times the evidence of an imminent invasion, plans to land amphibious assaults in Hostomel and an invasion from Belarus. He ridiculed them on Twitter, which gave the US the impression that the president of Ukraine was more "protecting his political brand" (a quote from a White House official: We were taking steps that were attempting to help him, and there was a feeling that *he was protecting his own political brand* by either being in denial or projecting confidence because that's what was important to him at the time"). Americans said: "It was frustrating";
- on the eve of the invasion, the Russians directly told diplomats that Ukraine is "part of our country";
- well, everyone wrote about the fact that Zelensky did not want to start "digging trenches" because he did not want to cause panic.
It is surprising that they met the morning of February 24 at home, as did the mayors of cities in the north of Kyiv, Sumy, and Zhytomyr regions. If the Office of the President has the amount of information described in the article, it would be logical to at least check the defense readiness of local communities.
I have heard many comments on these statements. It can be assumed that the authorities really did not want to talk about the threat of an attack, so as not to provoke panic. But who prevented the north and south from preparing for the attack?
To the last, we demanded to allocate UAH 50 billion for the army, and the majority in the Verkhovna Rada laughed at us. They needed roads.
I spoke with the ministers a few days before the invasion. They sincerely believed that the enemy would attack only in the Donetsk direction. Despite the obvious facts. Some of them positioned themselves before the war as a "united nation" or as brothers with the Russians. What war?
Here the question is about the lessons that the authorities should learn. Listen to people with different views, even political rivals. Now is not the time for elections. We must be united. This does not mean - to praise yourself and the greatest, but to do everything professionally together for Ukrainian victory.
