We prepare start of negotiations on Ukraine's membership in EU - Zelenskyy
All prerequisites are in place for negotiations on Ukraine's membership in the EU to start already this year
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this in his evening address on January 19.
“We are preparing the next Ukraine-EU summit that is scheduled for the beginning of February. We are also preparing the start of negotiations on Ukraine's membership in the European Union - there are all the prerequisites for these negotiations to start already this year,” he said.
Zelenskyy added that the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, who is visiting Kyiv, also spoke about the joint future of Ukraine and the European Union.
“Speaking in the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian parliament - ed.), Charles Michel once again absolutely clearly confirmed that there are no alternatives to the common future of Ukraine and the European Union. “Without an independent and secure Ukraine, there cannot be an independent and secure Europe. Without a free Ukraine, there cannot be a free Europe. We have a common future.” This is exactly what Mr. President of the European Council said, and this can be the motto of our relations, our integration processes this year,” Zelenskyy added.
