We must raise technological stakes in this war - military expert Zgurets on Zaluzhnyi's article
Serhiy Zgurets, CEO of Defense Express, comments on the article by Ukraine's Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Valeriy Zaluzhnyi for The Economist. According to the expert, general calls for raising the technological stakes in this war
He said this on the Espreso TV channel.
"We are now moving to a new level where we need financial assistance and weapons, but in the format of a new vision of war. That is, based on technological solutions that can be implemented in Ukraine and with the help of our partners. I think this is Zaluzhnyi's new call for raising the technological stakes in this war," Zgurets explained.
"Ukraine has reached a "dead end" in the war and now we need to find ways out. We hope our American and European partners have realized this", the analyst said. "The concept that the Ukrainian army was preparing with its partners, with the standards for breaking through Russian defense, needs to be changed. The risks of turning into a positional war can only be resolved with technological changes," Zgurets added.
According to him, the situation has changed in a year. Therefore, the needs of the Ukrainian army are different now.
"Last year, around the same time, when Zaluznyi gave an interview to The Economist, he said what Ukraine needed specifically. It was recognized as a necessary component of Ukraine's progress in the approaches that were relevant at the time. However, the situation has changed in a year. We also see that aid is arriving slower than planned," the analyst said.
He also mentioned a certain pause and attrition that is likely to occur at the front.
"There is a feeling that the first half of the year will be quite difficult and exhausting. If there are technological changes, these changes will have an impact around the end of next year. That is, there will be a certain pause, where the war will be in a positional version, one way or another. It is important to use this time to create the preconditions that will allow us to move into maneuver warfare. This is what Zaluzhnyi's recommendations are aimed about," Zgurets summarized.
