Ukraine's air defense to become stronger in 2023; ensuring electricity supply will be among main tasks - Zelenskyy

Zelenskyy said this in his address.

“This year, we not only preserved our air defense - we made it stronger than ever. But in the new year, Ukrainian air defense will become even stronger, even more effective. Ukrainian air defense can become the most powerful in Europe, and this will be a guarantee of security not only for our state, but also for the entire continent,” Zelenskyy said.

The president also said that fierce confrontations are taking place on the eastern front, but Ukraine's Armed Forces are holding their positions and moving forward.

“Donetsk region, Luhansk region - our Donbas, where the fiercest battles are going on. Bakhmut, Soledar, Kreminna... In general, we are holding our positions. There are also areas of the front where we are advancing little by little. And I thank all our fighters who ensure this. You are real heroes!” Zelenskyy said. 

In addition, the president announced a strategy to ensure electricity supply.

“We have a clear strategy to ensure the generation and supply of electricity. It will take time to implement it. It will take a lot of effort. But it will happen. It will be necessary. This is one of the most important tasks for the next year, and I have no doubt that we will fulfill it,” Zelenskyy said. 

The Ukrainian leader also touched upon foreign policy issues.

“Today I spoke with the Prime Minister of Greece. We summed up the year, and I thanked Greece for the support of our country. We agreed for next year how we can make cooperation even more meaningful. I held a meeting with our international representatives. Many questions, but the main thing is the measures that we are preparing to strengthen Ukraine already in January and February. Ukraine will retain the achieved leadership in foreign policy and will be even more active, this is one hundred percent,” Zelenskyy said.

The President also noted the work of volunteers who help the army and civilians.

“Today, for the first time, the ceremony of awarding our volunteers with the Golden Heart was held. It is fair and honest - based on the results of the year, to recognize those who help our defense, help people and our entire state throughout the year. I thank everyone who fights for our country. Who helps Ukrainians. Who works for Ukraine and our future. Glory to all our people! Glory to Ukraine!” Zelenskyy said.
