Safety at Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant rests on employees’ shoulders - ex-chief engineer at Chernobyl
The main problem at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant (NPP) is that occupying Russian forces keep the plant's staff in a state of permanent psychological uncertainty.
The ex-chief engineer of the Chornobyl NPP, Mykola Shteitenberg, shared the statement on Espresso.
"Keeping people in an uncertain psychological state is the main problem. Because the station rests on the shoulders of several hundred employees of the Zaporizhzhya NPP - operators, repairmen, foremen, heads of laboratories who ensure the safety of the existing units," he said.
According to him, the management of Energoatom and the bodies of nuclear regulation have stepped out, referring to the lack of communications.
"This team works alone. Psychologically, you can understand the situation - you come for a shift and you don't know if you will find your family at home. These are the conditions in which operators work, every move of which can cause unpredictable consequences. The safety of the station rests on the shoulders of these guys. And our general security. This must be understood," Shteitenberg concluded.
