"Russian leadership hides from responsibility": Zelenskyi calls for the creation of a Special Tribunal on Russian war crimes
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi calls for the creation of a Special Tribunal for war crimes committed by Russia against Ukraine in order to punish those who are not caught by other courts.
He wrote about it on Facebook.
The President noted that for many years the world has been looking for ways to prevent another full-scale war in Europe and to punish war criminals, no matter where they are. Volodymyr Zelenskyi cited the judgment of the Nuremberg Tribunal.
"Crimes against international law are committed by specific people, not abstract individuals, and only by punishing specific individuals who have committed these crimes, it is possible to ensure compliance with the provisions of international law," he said.
Volodymyr Zelenskyi noted that this court punished the perpetrators of the Second World War and proved that there is justice in the world.
"You all know how the leadership of Russia, hiding behind false stories about state sovereignty, hides from fair responsibility for what has been committed. We need to overcome this. A Special Tribunal should be established for the crime of aggression against Ukraine. So that it can punish those who, unfortunately, cannot reach the International Criminal Court and all other available judicial institutions of the world," he emphasized.
