Russian forces kill at least 1,000 locals in Izyum - District Military Administration estimates
Rescuers say that the killings of Ukrainians by the invading Russian forces in Izyum, Kharkiv region, are three times larger than in the Kyiv region
Stepan Maselskyi, the head of the Izyum District Military Administration, said this on Espreso TV.
"In Izyum, the situation is terrible, it repeats Bucha, Irpin, which must be multiplied by three. This is what the employees of Ukraine's State Emergency Service say. I hope that we will not find more mass graves. Previously, 400 graves have been found. In one grave, we find several bodies, including children," he said.
According to Maselskyi, the victims include civilians and soldiers with signs of torture - with ropes around their necks and broken limbs.
"The Russians shot people who were buried alive in the basements. The residents survived, perhaps, the most difficult 5-6 months of their lives during the occupation without electricity, water supply, heat since March, normal food, as well as without medical care. This was survival," the head of the Izyum District Military Administration said.
He noted that the most common places where Russians kill are basements.
"The occupiers killed people, mocked them, and subjected them to torture. People there were on top of each other, they were even forced to sleep standing up. They wanted people to go over to their side. We estimate that at least 1,000 people were killed in Izyum," Maselskyi concluded.
