"Russian Army must leave the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant without conditions as soon as possible": Zelenskyy on preparation of IAEA visit to plant
Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced that Ukrainian diplomats and nuclear scientists are working on organizing the visit of the IAEA mission to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
Zelenskyy said this in an evening video message on August 17.
"Ukrainian diplomats, our nuclear scientists and the IAEA are in constant contact, now they are working on sending the IAEA mission to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. Only absolute transparency and control of the situation at the ZNPP and around it for the Ukrainian state, for the international community, for the IAEA can guarantee a gradual return to normal nuclear safety," Zelenskyy emphasized.
The President also stated the need for the immediate withdrawal of Russian troops from the territory of the station.
"The Russian army must withdraw from the territory of the NPP and all nearby areas, and take away its military equipment from the station. This must happen without any conditions and as soon as possible. Ukraine is ready to ensure proper control by the IAEA, and the relevant mission can be sent to the Zaporizhzhia station in a legal way very quickly and as efficiently as possible," Zelenskyy said.
