US security guarantees for Ukraine: White House tells about negotiations
John Kirby states negotiations between Ukraine and the USA on security guarantees are ongoing. Ukraine is currently finalizing details on how its needs will be included in the document
The Voice of America reports.
Kirby emphasized that regardless of when the war ends, regardless of how this war ends, Ukraine will still have a long border with Russia, and they will still have legitimate security needs. The United States will continue to support them as they clarify their needs, what those needs should look like.
He also added that nine other countries have completed negotiations with Ukraine on a bilateral security agreement.
White House national security spokesman stated that “everyone is working on the same thing - we are trying to create what can be called bilateral security arrangements”.
The White House official added that the United States is proud of its government's efforts “to support Ukraine in building its current force capabilities”.
- It is noted that on 30 April, representatives of the US government - the US Department of State, the US Department of Defence and the US National Security Council - continued discussions with their Ukrainian counterparts on security arrangements. According to the report, this conversation "is important for long-term bilateral security arrangements and other commitments under the Group of Seven Joint Declaration".
