Russia attempts to destroy Ukrainian air defense in South during night assault
In the nighttime assault on Ukraine on February 25, Russia deployed both UAVs and missiles in an attempt to dismantle Ukrainian air defense systems in the southern regions
This was stated by Nataliya Humeniuk, Operational Command "South" spokeswoman.
"Last night was intense with air-raid alarms, featuring both missile and drone attacks," Humeniuk reported during a telethon.
Humeniuk highlighted that initially, the Russians sought to disable Ukrainian air defense using tactical aviation from the Black Sea. The invaders utilized Kh-31P missiles, but these were successfully intercepted over the sea.
Subsequently, the Russian Federation launched a drone attack.
During the one-and-a-half-hour enemy onslaught, the first wave targeted the Mykolaiv region, followed by a second attack penetrating deeper into Ukraine, reaching central regions with a subsequent transition to the western parts.
Humeniuk affirmed, "Both the first and second waves of the South's air defense forces worked effectively."
In response to the UAV attack, Ukrainian forces successfully neutralized one drone over the Kherson region, three over the Mykolaiv region, and two over the Kirovohrad region.
"We worked efficiently and did not allow any hits," emphasized the spokeswoman.
- During the night of Sunday, February 25, Russian occupiers launched attack drones against Ukraine. The air defense forces managed to destroy 16 out of 18 enemy drones.
