American framework restricts actions — Diplomat Khara points to strategic goal differences between Ukraine and US in war with Russia
Diplomat, expert of the Center for Defense Strategies on foreign and security policy Oleksandr Khara believes that Ukrainian strategic goals do not coincide with the American ones
He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
"Our strategic goals do not coincide with the American ones. Russians have bipolar disorder, it is a political and social disease. At the same time, Russia has great power because it is a nuclear power. It is also a fragile state because it believed that small Ukraine could attack and destroy it. This bipolar disorder is actually implanted in American brains. On the one hand, the United States does not want Russia to collapse, but on the other hand, it does not want an escalation when Putin pushes the red button. This limitation has shaped the strategy that the Americans are still implementing," Khara explained.
According to the expert of the Center for Defense Strategies on foreign and security policy, the US strategy is that Ukraine should hold on.
"That Ukraine should launch 1 or 2 powerful military strikes against Russian troops on the territory of the Russian Federation, thus forcing Putin to the negotiating table. They keep saying that there should be some kind of political and diplomatic end to this war. For Ukraine, the goal is that we must liberate all our territories and become a member of NATO to secure ourselves in the future," Khara said.
The diplomat also added that the difference in goals is that Ukraine wants the collapse of the Putin regime through military defeat and to reduce Russia's resource base. For the Americans, this is not entirely acceptable, and they criticized it.
"The US does not want the world price of energy to rise. By the way, American analysts and former military diplomats criticize their own government for having a failed strategy and for not helping Ukraine enough for Ukraine to win. The American strategic framework limits our actions," Hara emphasized.
- US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that Putin now believes in his strength and that he can defeat Ukraine and its allies. However, in his opinion, there are a number of factors that will prevent him from doing so.
- Ukraine is already receiving weapons from a new aid package announced earlier by the United States as part of a renewed military support program.
