Russia is responsible for attacks on and around the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant - ISW
The Institute for the Study of War says it can be confident that Russia is responsible for the kinetic attacks on and around the captured Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant (ZNPP), although it is trying to blame Ukraine.
This was reported in the report of the Institute for the Study of War.
The ISW also does not believe the Russians' claims that Ukraine is shelling the ZNPP.
"Russian sources have accused Ukrainian forces of firing at the ZNPP, but Russia has not provided clear evidence that Ukrainian forces struck the NPP. The failure of the Russians to provide unequivocal evidence of large-scale shelling from Ukraine deserves more attention, since the Russian Federation controls the territory and can provide more convincing evidence much easier than Ukraine," the report says.
Analysts noted that the Russian military militarized the Zaporizhia NPP, even though the facility is located far from the front line.
"Russian forces have also heavily militarized the ZNNP since its capture, despite the fact that the facility is far from the front line and is not at risk of an imminent ground attack from Ukraine. Such actions by the Russian army make it much more likely that the Russian Federation is responsible for the kinetic attacks on and around the ZNPP," ISW said in a statement.
