Mine terror should be charged against Russia - Volodymyr Zelenskyy
Among the charges against Russia should be a clause on mine terror, which Ukraine will have to resist for years
This was stated by Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the evening address on December 8.
"I am sure mine terror will be among the charges against Russia. This is even crueler and mean than a missile system because no mine action system can destroy at least part of the threat, as our air defense does," Zelenskyy said.
He claimed Russian forces deliberately leave behind as many deadly traps as possible. They bury land mines, tripwires, mine buildings, cars and infrastructure. Ukraine has more than 170 thousand square kilometers of dangerous territory.
"I am grateful to all our partners who help Ukraine with mine action. Canada, Japan, Great Britain, Slovakia, ambassadors and donors of United24 and many others who understand how important it is that Ukraine is not left alone with the problem," Zelenskyy added.
Text from a Telegram post:
I have just signed decrees on awarding posthumous state awards to police officers whose lives were taken yesterday in the Kherson region by Russian mines.
They did everything for the safety of Ukrainians. They return after completing one of the tasks. When they seized weapons and ammunition from the cache of the Russian forces, who were left many in the Kherson region, the police officers fell into a mine trap.
And this is a form of Russian terror that will have to be resisted for years. Russian forces deliberately leave behind as many deadly traps as possible. They bury land mines, tripwires, mine buildings, cars and infrastructure...
I am sure mine terror will be among the charges against Russia. This is even crueler and mean than a missile system because no mine action system can destroy at least part of the threat, as our air defense does.
