Military equipment removed from storage is spotted in Gomel, Belarus
On the evening of April 11, a train with military equipment - at least 10 GAZ-66 vehicles - was spotted in the Belarusian city of Gomel. Presumably, the vehicles were removed from long-term storage
MotolkoHelp reports.
Gomel holds the 1868th Artillery Armament Base (military unit 63604), which is engaged in the repair, storage, maintenance and delivery of rocket and artillery weapons to the troops. Among the equipment stored at this base are GAZ-66 vehicles, which were spotted as part of the echelon.
"They are used to transport 82-mm mortars 2B9 Vasilek and 120-mm mortars 2B11. Given the direction of the echelon's movement, we can assume that the vehicles were taken out of storage at the 1868th base," the monitoring group said.
The observers add that the 2B9 Vasilek mortars are not used by the Belarusian armed forces, but instead by the Russian military from the so-called regional troop grouping located in Belarus.
It is most likely that the equipment removed from storage will be transferred to the Russians, but observers assume that the vehicles may be transported for other purposes unrelated to the army (e.g., for recycling or sale).
