Japan bans export of materials that can be used for chemical weapons to Russia
A Japanese government official has announced an additional ban on the export of chemical weapons-related items to Russia
This was stated by the general secretary of the Cabinet of Ministers, Hirokazu Matsuno, The Washington Post reports.
On Monday, the Japanese government banned the export of materials that could be used for chemical weapons to 21 Russian organizations, including scientific laboratories. The measure was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers following a decision by G7 foreign ministers last week.
Japan introduces new restrictions in connection with Russia's threats to use nuclear weapons against Ukraine.
"As the only country in the world that has suffered nuclear attacks, we strongly demand that the threat or use of nuclear weapons by Russia never happens," the message states.
Matsuno was responding to questions about comments made by US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan on CBS News on Sunday that the US would act "decisively" in the event of a Russian nuclear attack on Ukraine.
Asked whether Japan approves of the possible use of nuclear weapons by the US against Russia, Matsuno declined to comment, saying it was a hypothetical question.
