Israel limits the number of cities where Ukrainian refugees can work
Israeli Minister of Internal Affairs Ayelet Shaked says that Ukrainian refugees' right to work will be limited in 17 cities of Israel
The Israeli newspaper Haaretz writes about this.
The publication reports that these restrictions in the cities will not prevent Ukrainian refugees from working in construction, agriculture, care institutions, as well as the hotel business.
The ban will apply to cities such as Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Petah Tikva, which host the largest number of 13,945 Ukrainian refugees in Israel. The list of cities also includes Eilat, Ashdod and Netanya.
The new order is an amendment to the June protocol of the Israeli Population and Immigration Administration, which granted temporary work permits to Ukrainians.
Lawyer Orly Levinson-Sela said such restrictions increase the risk of poverty, food insecurity and human trafficking among people arriving in the country.
"Instead of inventing new and creative ways to harm refugees and asylum seekers, it is time for the State of Israel to formulate a comprehensive, transparent and fair policy for refugees and asylum seekers", she added.
