Invading Russian forces abduct head of Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant - Energoatom
On the afternoon of September 30, invading Russian forces abducted the general director of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant (NPP), Ihor Murashov. His whereabouts is currently unknown
This was reported by Energoatom on Telegram.
"On Friday, September 30, 2022, around 4:00 p.m., the general director of the Zaporizhzhia NPP, Ihor Murashov, was detained by a Russian patrol on the road from the station to Energodar. The car was stopped, and he was forcibly detained, blindfolded, and taken to an unknown direction. Currently, there is no information about the whereabouts of Ihor Murashov," the President of Energoatom Petro Kotin said.
He noted that the general director of the Zaporizhzhia NPP is a licensed public official who bears the main and exclusive responsibility for the nuclear and radiation safety of the nuclear plant. His detention poses a danger to the operation of the largest nuclear power plant in Europe.
Petro Kotin addressed the invading Russian forces in Russian:
"I demand from the Russian military, who control the Zaporizhzhia NPP, and Rosatom employees, who are also illegally present at our nuclear facility, to stop the acts of nuclear terrorism against the management and staff of the Zaporizhzhia NPP, to immediately fire the head of the plant, and to return him to the performance of official duties for maintaining the safe operation of the Zaporizhzhia NPP," he emphasized.
In addition, he appealed to the Director General of the IAEA, Raphael Grossi, and the head of the World Association of Organizations that operate nuclear power plants, Tom Mitchell, urging them to take all possible measures for the urgent release of Igor Murashov from Russian captivity and his return to the performance of official duties.
