If Ukrainians were mature and conscious...

Societies and political elites do not evolve overnight and not by magic. But at the cost of huge losses and mistakes

If you expect Zelenskyy or his entourage to apologize for the wrong position on the Tomos in the past, they will not do it. Because almost no one publicly admits that something is wrong with their worldview's fundamental beliefs.

Now few people even admit that they once voted for Yanukovych or Tymoshenko. Even among my friends in the 1st round of 2010 everyone "voted for Yushchenko", although I am a bad person - I remember how they campaigned for Yulia Vladimirovna or Viktor Fedorovich. Although political beliefs are a secondary derivative of the worldview.

“I remember how many very patriotic Ukrainians liked Putin, even more liked Lukashenko and they did not sympathize with Georgia in 2008. But I do not mention this to anyone personally either”

I remember how many very patriotic Ukrainians liked Putin, even more liked Lukashenko and they did not sympathize with Georgia in 2008. But I do not mention this to anyone personally either

Because it is absolutely pointless. It does not help the country to win or heal the wounds caused by war, crises and upheavals. All people and societies change and evolve. Often - at too high a price. And poking at the past is about as effective as drying clothes in the rain.

If we were all "smart adults", in 1991 we would have elected Chornovil (although now it is difficult to say what would have happened, but let it be).

If Ukrainians were "mature and conscious" in the 90s, we would have already been in the EU and NATO. Then the door was open. But we were not.

If Ukrainians were "mature and conscious" in 2010, they would have re-elected Yushchenko, although I have a lot of questions to him. And - quite possibly - none of what Yanukovych created the preconditions for would have happened.

“Societies and political elites do not evolve overnight and by magic. But at the cost of huge losses and mistakes. Therefore, no, I do not expect politicians, opinion leaders, citizens to apologize for the wrong worldview”

If Ukrainians were "more mature and conscious", during all 30 years they would have demanded economic reforms and liberalization, not "cheaper" tariffs, and that the land market would not exist. But it doesn't happen that way.

But it doesn't happen that way. Societies and political elites do not evolve overnight and not by magic. But at the cost of huge losses and mistakes.

Therefore, no, I do not expect politicians, opinion leaders and citizens to apologize for their wrong worldview. I expect from citizens and politicians that they will not be so limited and silly in the future. Or they will be a little less silly than they were.

By the way, I expect this from myself. Because I have a lot of questions to myself.
