Head of European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, to visit Ukraine today
On Wednesday, September 14, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, will go to Kyiv for negotiations with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
She told about this in her annual address "On the State of the Union" in the European Parliament.
Announcing the visit, von der Leyen listed the steps and plans for further rapprochement between Ukraine and the EU.
"In March, we successfully connected Ukraine to our electricity grid. This was planned for 2024, and we did it in just two weeks, and today Ukraine exports electricity to the EU," she said.
Von der Leyen emphasized that she wants to significantly expand this mutually beneficial trade.
"We have already suspended import duties on Ukrainian exports. We will accept Ukraine into our free European roaming network, indeed it is time to do so. Our 'lines of solidarity' are a great success. And building on all of this, the commission will work with Ukraine to go further further, and to ensure Ukraine's seamless access to the EU's single market. Our single market is one of the greatest success stories, and it's time to make it a success story for our Ukrainian friends.
That is why today I am going to Kyiv to discuss all this with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and to show him that the single market has potential for the future of Ukraine as well," von der Leyen said.
