EU countries accept almost 7 million refugees from Ukraine, 3 million return
3 million Ukrainians who left the country in the first months of the war have now left the European Union.
The European Commissioner for Internal Affairs Ilva Johanson shared the news at a press conference in Prague, Ukrinform reports.
"According to our data, 6.7 million Ukrainians entered the European Union and approximately 3 million have already returned. 3.7 million Ukrainians applied for temporary protection," Johanson said.
The European Commissioner added that the figures are imperfectly accurate, as Ukrainians often applied first in one EU country, then in another. Either they didn't apply at all, or they applied, but already left.
"Therefore, approximately 3.2-3.7 million Ukrainians are now on the territory of the EU," Johansen said.
According to her, the largest number of Ukrainians, if you calculate the number of refugees per capita of the host country's population, came to the Czech Republic. In second place Poland, third Estonia, fourth Lithuania, fifth Bulgaria, sixth Latvia.
