Dynamic protection on Leopard 2A4 for Ukrainian army: details
Several dozen Ukrainian Leopard 2A4s have received typical armor reinforcement with dynamic protection
This is reported by Defense Express.
Following the delivery of Leopard 2A4 tanks to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, photographs and videos of these vehicles with enhanced dynamic protection began to circulate. This raised the question whether such a decision was an uncommon one, almost a crew initiative, or a common and broad one.
However, a video has now been put online, allowing us to finally confirm that the decision to give Leopard 2A4 an additional armor is systematic and that the Armed Forces have undergone a light upgrade. The video shows more than a dozen vehicles that have gotten additional armor in accordance with a standard plan.
It is quite possible that the tanks in the photo are those of the 33rd Detached Mechanized Brigade, whose Leopard 2A4 with dynamic protection became publicly known in July of this year, thanks to a report by the General Staff.
"And finally, increasing the armor of the Leopard 2A4 is an absolutely logical decision, which is also being implemented by other vehicle operators in this version. For example, Poland is upgrading the A4 into its PL version, one of the elements of which is increased turret protection," the company writes.
Roketsan and the Greek EODH SA both provided dynamic protection for the Leopard 2A4 to the Turkish Armed Forces. Although these solutions are more advanced, Ukraine does not have the time for more significant upgrading, so the installation of dynamic protection units may be the best option.
"At the same time, it may be incorrect to say that the tanks are equipped with Kontakt-1 dynamic protection, because these same standard containers are equipped with modern and much more effective Ukrainian-made HFSCP elements," Defense Express notes.
