British intelligence analyzes drone attacks on Russian territory, evaluates Russian air defense
In August 2023, Russia's territory was attacked by unmanned aerial vehicles 25 times. Most of the drones reached their targets. This indicates gaps in Russian air defense
The UK Ministry of Defense reported the information.
It noted that Russia has suffered 25 drone attacks since the beginning of August 2023. It is worth noting that many of these drones have successfully achieved their goals, which may indicate the difficulties that Russian air defense is experiencing in detecting and eliminating these threats.
"Russia is likely rethinking its air defence posture in the area between Ukraine and Moscow to better deal with these attacks," the report said.
The intelligence service noted that previous strikes on Russian military air bases had led to the dispersal of Russian aircraft across Russia. However, recent strikes on Soltsy and Pskov have demonstrated that UAVs have a significant range, which makes further dispersal difficult.
"It is likely that Russia will have to consider the addition of further air defence systems to airfields that it considers to be at risk from UAV attacks," British intelligence believes.
- On the night of August 29-30, Russian air defense systems were allegedly active in the temporarily occupied Sevastopol, Moscow, Ryazan, Kaluga, Bryansk, and Oryol regions.
- On the morning of August 31, the Russian Ministry of Defense once again accused Ukraine of a drone attack on the Moscow region. It noted that the drone was allegedly destroyed.
