"Bringing Russia to justice - guaranteeing long-term peace": Zelenskyy calls on Russian authorities to be punished for war against Ukraine
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on the Russian Federation to understand punishment is inevitable, because bringing it to justice is a guarantee of peace
He stated this in an address to the participants and guests of the Montenegrin Security Forum.
"For many years, the leader of Russia and his entourage felt complete impunity. They destroyed democracy in their country and began to destroy everything around Russia. They used to steal what they liked and buy those who were supposed to protect the national interests of this or that state from them,” - Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted.
He noted that in 2014, the Russian Federation started a war against Ukraine because it felt its impunity after the attack on Georgia. The Russians carried out the full-scale invasion on February 24 because they did not believe that the world would be able to bring them to justice not only for the crime of aggression against a sovereign state, but for any imaginable one.
"So to bring them to justice is to guarantee the long-term peace after this war, the inevitability of punishment is one of the key principles of criminal justice. And we must apply this principle to the Russian leadership as they deserve it," the president emphasized.
