Bill on recognition of Russia as state sponsor of terrorism is submitted to the US Senate
The US Senate submitted the bill on the recognition of the Russian Federation as a state sponsor of terrorism. Authors are senators from both parties.
The Voice of America reports.
Senators Richard Blumenthal and Lindsey Graham presented the bill, according to which Russia will be recognized as a state sponsor of terrorism, to the upper house of Congress. If it is adopted, it will be possible to file lawsuits against Russia in US courts for actions in Ukraine.
"The need for this step is more urgent today than ever before," Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal reports at a press conference.
Another author of the bill, Republican Lindsey Graham, notes that "the new legal definition will send a strong signal of support to Kyiv, as well as to US allies, and at the same time impose severe penalties and increased sanctions on Russia."
Both senators push for Russia to be recognized as a state sponsor of terrorism after visiting Kyiv in July.
