"Almost destroyed": Russian forces restrict traffic on Antoniv bridge in Kherson region
Passage is possible only for cars and passenger transport, trucks and military equipment can only cross the Dnieper 80 km further at the Kakhovka hydro power plant (HPP) dam.
Volodymyr Saldo, the head of the Kherson regional occupation administration, made an announcement.
"In order to complete the repair work as soon as possible, only cars and passenger vehicles will be allowed to cross the bridge," Saldo said in a video message posted on the administration's Telegram channel.
He clarified that cargo transport will be able to cross the Dnipro through the dam of the Kakhovka HPP. It is located approximately 80 km from Kherson.
Deputy head of the so-called 'military-civilian administration of the region' Kyrylo Stremousov commented to TASS less optimistically:
"The bridge is effectively destroyed. If the strikes continue, it may collapse."
The only bridge across the Dnieper in Kherson was hit twice by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. After the first, on July 19, four debris hits were recorded, and eleven on the morning of July 20.
Serhiy Khlan, deputy of the Kherson regional council, told Espreso that 4 explosions were heard on the Antoniv bridge, and there was heavy smoke over the Russian missile unit in Nova Kakhovka.
"Yesterday, the Ukrainian Armed Forces neutralized the enemy's location near the Antoniv bridge. Russian manpower and equipment were dug in there. Yesterday it hit there accurately, but it also hit the bridge. However, the main target were the Russian forces who were neutralized," noted Serhiy Khlan.
