Lithuania announces assistance in various areas
"No aggressor in the world will stop the friendship and assistance of two countries that love freedom. Lithuania will do everything for Ukraine and for all of us, for our common victory," the Lithuanian Prime Minister emphasized.
Šimonytė reaffirmed her unwavering support for Ukraine's territorial integrity and its path to EU and NATO membership.
According to her, Lithuania has called on and will continue to call on all Western allies to immediately provide Ukraine with all the weapons it needs to defeat Russia on the battlefield as soon as possible.
The Prime Minister reminded that to date, Lithuania has provided Ukraine with more than €1 billion in assistance, half of which is military aid. In particular, Lithuania has donated €35 million to the Czech initiative to purchase ammunition.
Šimonytė said that Lithuania will soon purchase about 3,000 Lithuanian FPV drones for about €2 million through the Ministry of Defense, which are to arrive at the front this year.
Lithuania is also launching a special program for the rehabilitation of the Ukrainian military, for which, as Shmyhal later noted, €12 million will be allocated.
The Lithuanian side will also allocate €15 million to develop infrastructure in Lviv, Dnipro, and Zhytomyr, and the country is inviting international donors.
The governments of Ukraine and Lithuania are currently discussing security cooperation
Šimonytė assured that official talks on convening an intergovernmental conference should begin immediately.
Lithuania is also stepping up its support for Ukraine, including in the area of European integration, and will help further implement reform progress and strengthen Ukraine's administrative capacity.
The officials also discussed how to bring Russia and its ally Belarus to justice for war crimes.
"Our common task of the international community is to establish a special international tribunal capable of bringing to justice the highest leadership, including the military, of Russia and Belarus," she emphasized.
They also discussed sanctions against Russia and Belarus, their strengthening and effectiveness, and attempts to counteract sanctions circumvention.
Ukraine and Lithuania will also insist to the EU on the need to confiscate Russian assets and use them for the benefit of Ukraine.
According to the Lithuanian prime minister, the country will continue to help Ukraine's energy sector, restore educational institutions, and install shelters.
"Lithuania was, is and will be with Ukraine. Before and after its victory. We must do everything necessary for Ukraine's victory and as soon as possible. Together with Ukraine as a full-fledged member state, we will build a prosperous European Union and an even stronger NATO to ensure peace in Europe and security for the entire democratic world," summarized Šimonytė
