7 Sri Lankan citizens who were tortured by the Russian forces have been rescued in the de-occupied territory of the Kharkiv region
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this in an evening address.
The natives of Sri Lanka were students of the Kupyan Medical College.
"In Kharkiv Oblast, investigative actions are ongoing in the areas that were liberated from the Russian occupation. Torture chambers were found in which peaceful residents of the occupied cities and towns were abused, premises in which people were kept - even foreigners. In particular, seven citizens of the Republic of Sri Lanka, students of Kupyan Medical College. Back in March, they were captured by Russian soldiers, and later they kept these people in the basement. Only now, after the liberation of Kharkiv Oblast, these people were rescued, they are provided with proper medical care," Zelenskyy said.
