Ukrainian military losses are lower than Russian, despite Ukraine's offensive – intelligence chief
The head of the Defense Ministry's Main Intelligence Directorate, Kyrylo Budanov, said that casualties among the Ukrainian Armed Forces are less than in the Russian army, although Ukrainian troops are on the offensive
He shared this information in an interview with the Warzone.
According to Budanov, it is quite logical that all losses among Ukrainian defenders – both killed and wounded – have increased with the transition to offensive actions, compared to previous periods.
“But there is still this very interesting peculiarity that even though we're on the offensive, our numbers of casualties are still lower than on the enemy’s side who are in defense,” he added.
He added that changes must now take place, as Ukraine will need additional weapons systems and "capabilities that can still change the balance we have today."
“Because looking at the situation solely from the perspective of manpower, if we compare the Ukrainian potential with Russian potential, the Russians have a lot more human resources. That is why we cannot keep on fighting just soldier on soldier. This will not deliver the results we want,” Budanov said.
He added that Ukraine needs longer-range weapon systems in order to engage Russian command posts, their logistics storages, etc.
- The day before, a similar opinion was expressed by the Institute for the Study of War. According to the ISW, the losses of the Russian occupiers have increased significantly in the west of Zaporizhzhia region amid the Ukrainian army's counteroffensive.
- Over the last day, the Ukrainian army destroyed 510 Russian troops, 11 tanks and 8 enemy drones, according to the General Staff.
