Ukraine confirms attack on Atlas oil depot in Russia’s Rostov region
On the night of November 28-29, a fire erupted at the Rosrezerv Atlas oil depot near Kamensk-Shakhtinsky in the Rostov region. Meanwhile, Tuapse was targeted in a drone attack
On the night of November 29, the Atlas oil depot in Russia's Rostov region was struck, resulting in a fire on the facility's premises, with at least two fires reported. This oil depot had already been targeted by the Ukrainian Defense Forces earlier this summer.
The General Staff said that Atlas is part of the Russian military-industrial complex, which supplies petroleum products to the Russian army.
“Additionally, as part of the mission to detect and eliminate enemy air defense systems, a radar station of the Buk-M3 anti-aircraft missile system belonging to the Russian invaders was destroyed. The target was located in the temporarily occupied territory of the Zaporizhzhia region,” the statement said.
Earlier, Russian Telegram channels Baza, Mash, and others reported on the fire at the oil depot.
Rostov Region Governor Yuri Slyusar said that the region was under attack by drones. According to him, at least 30 UAVs were involved.
Russian authorities have not provided details regarding the fire at the oil depot. Slyusar stated that over 100 "rescuers" are working to extinguish the blaze at the "industrial facility."
Local Russian media reported that the fire occurred at an oil depot in the Kamensky district, a suburb of Kamensk-Shakhtinsky.
Later, Slyusar also provided an update on the fire at the industrial facility: “In the Kamensky district, rescue units are battling a large fire at an industrial facility. A total of 109 personnel and 38 vehicles are involved in the operation.”
Since its launch, the Atlas plant has specialized in the storage of oil products, local media reported. The plant also supplies oil products to the Russian army, according to journalists. A 2023 publication by Zemlya agency notes that “in August 2020, the plant hosted joint exercises of the Defense Ministry and the Russian Reserve as part of the Caucasus 2020 exercise. The demonstration exercises on the supply of petroleum products for the needs of the army involved three methods - road, rail and pipeline”, the ASTRA telegram channel reports.
They also informed about a UAV attack on Tuapse in Russia's Krasnodar Territory. Smoke was visible over the sea in Tuapse following the massive drone strike, as shown by online cameras from a local beach. The authorities have yet to comment on the incident.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that last night its air defense system allegedly destroyed 47 Ukrainian drones, including 29 UAVs over the territory of Rostov region, eight over the territory of Krasnodar region, three over the territories of Belgorod, Bryansk and Voronezh regions, and one over the territory of the temporarily occupied Crimea.
