"There were cases of older Kherson residents dying in queues to leave due to lack of water" - Yellow Ribbon movement activist
Since May, Kherson residents have been trying to leave the city and move to Ukraine-controlled areas, standing in line for several days. Older people were dying due to lack of water
Ivan, activist of "Yellow Ribbon" public resistance movement, told about this in the "War and Volunteers" program to Espreso journalist.
"Since May, Kherson residents tried to leave the city to the territory controlled by Ukraine", Ivan says. "People stood in line for several days. There were many willing to leave and at the last moment they could turn around because they didn't like you. There were such cases. Old people could die in the heat because there was no water. Such cases happened very often."
According to the activist, over time the streets became more and more empty.
"At the beginning of November, Russian troops completely blocked exit from the city when they were evacuating and deporting population to the left bank", he adds. - Many people took the position that they needed to leave in order to be safe, because exit to the territory controlled by Ukraine was closed altogether. And they chose to stay or leave. But there were many cases when Russian soldiers robbed people and then moved into these apartments. So streets in the city became more and more empty. And on November 11, it was a great surprise when thousands of people came to the square".
