“Contradicts common sense": Ukraine calls for Russia's expulsion from UN Security Council
Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets called for the expulsion of Russia from the UN Security Council and said that its presence “contradicts common sense”
He wrote about this on Telegram.
“Russia's membership in the UN Security Council contradicts common sense,” Lubinets said.
He reminded that the UN was founded in 1945 to unite the efforts of states to solve global problems and create a more peaceful and stable world. The organization consists of dozens of departments and subsidiary international organizations that really contribute to the mission.
“However, one of the key bodies, the UN Security Council, includes a country that has unleashed the world's largest war since World War II! At the same time, we see that the UN Secretary General has recently arrived in the same country. What signal does this send to the world?” the Ombudsman wrote.
Lubinets emphasized that the UN and some international partners are deeply concerned that a just and sustainable peace cannot be achieved when those who aim to dismantle global order are in control.
“I call for the exclusion of the Russian Federation from the permanent members of the UN Security Council,” he added.
- Reuters has suggested that the United Nations is unlikely to impose new sanctions on North Korea over its sending of troops to war in Ukraine.
