Russian forces steal monuments from Kherson
On Monday, October 24, Russian forces dismantled and stole monuments to commander Alexander Suvorov and Admiral Fyodor Ushakov from Kherson
This was reported by Suspilne.Kherson and a number of Russian opposition media.
A few days before that, a list of priority attractions for the "evacuation" from Kherson began to spread on Russian Telegram channels. These two sculptures occupied the first place in it.
The first deputy head of the regional council, Yurii Sobolevskyi, in a comment to Suspilne noted that the sights were stolen by the Russian military during the retreat to the left bank of the Dnipro River.
“It's just not an army, it's a horde (from Golden Horde — western part of the Mongol empire; 'horde' is used to refer to the Russian army, emphasizing their brutality and lack of adherence to the 'rules of war' - ed.) that really has nothing sacred. When they retreat, and now they're just fleeing from the right bank of the Dnipro River in the Kherson region, they loot everything they can - whether it's our monuments or museum funds, cultural or medical institutions, from our hospitals. That is, everything that has any value, they rob it all,” Sobolevskyi said.
He also reported that the Russian military and their supporters break the locks in the apartments and houses of people who agree to leave for the left bank of the Dnipro River, and rob them.
“There are already several reports about this. They are carrying out everything. That is, they make a supposedly good picture on the one hand, and on the other hand, they just rob, because that's what they are,” Sobolevskyi said.
Volodymyr Rohov, a representative of the occupation "administration", said that the monuments were "evacuated" due to the "risk of shelling from the Ukrainian side".
