Ukraine destroys costly munitions at Russia's Tver depot - media
Defense Express editor-in-chief Oleh Katkov says that the Russians stored rare shells and ballistic missiles in the recently destroyed ammunition depot in the Tver region
He shared these insights on Espreso TV.
"It's crucial to understand that we're not discussing just a warehouse in the Tver region, we're talking about the 107th arsenal of Russia’s Main Missile and Artillery Directorate. This is one of the highest-ranking ammunition depots in Russia. There are only about 15 to 20 such major depots across the country, typically two or three within each military district. So, the Ukrainian Armed Forces targeted one of the largest ammunition depots in Russia, which serves as a logistics hub for the Russian military,” Katkov explained.
According to the expert, expensive munitions must be stored under specific temperature and humidity conditions.
"It’s important to emphasize that the Russians kept very scarce and costly ammunition at this depot. Storing such munitions, including ballistic missiles, isn’t just about hiding them in makeshift facilities. These shelters must maintain particular environmental conditions. Therefore, the more significant the depot, the rarer and more expensive the ammunition it holds,” he added.
- In the early hours of September 18, a drone attack caused a fire and explosions in an ammunition warehouse in Toropets, Tver region, prompting a partial evacuation of local residents.
- Military expert Ivan Kyrychevskyi noted that the scale of these explosions was unprecedented in modern military history.
