Kherson will run out of medicines in 2 weeks, humanitarian crisis grows - Denisova
Kherson is on the brink of running out of medicines. Russian forces prevent civilians from evacuating. The city now faces a looming humanitarian catastrophe.
Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Lyudmyla Denisova shared the update on the situation in Kherson.
A humanitarian crisis is growing in the temporarily Russian-occupied Kherson region.
Russians don't let residents of Kherson region settlements leave for the Ukrainian-controlled territory. They also restrict the movement within the region.
Denisova also said that the Russian militaries don’t let volunteers provide humanitarian aid and steal humanitarian cargo.
Kherson Mayor Igor Kolyhayev said that the humanitarian crisis is growing. The city is about to run out of medicines over the next two weeks. There are no more drip solutions, there is a shortage of drugs for cardiovascular disease. Not enough oxygen inhalation. In all areas of the region, without exception, there is a significant need for medicines.
About 500,000 people stay in the Kherson region. Before the full-scale war, about 1,000,000 residents lived in the region.
In the early days of capturing the southern region of Ukraine, Russians looted a large number of food chains and pharmacies. Ukrainian goods were taken to the Crimea and Russia.
"As a humanitarian aid, Russians give 5-year-old products and expired medicines. In exchange for them, they require passport data, lists of pensioners, social workers and just people living in a particular community," Denisova said.
